Two incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy gilded mounts found together (1500-1700).

Mount 1:

This openwork mount is lozenge-shaped in plan with a trefoil knop at each end and knop at each side. At the centre, four circular openings form a square and are 'countersunk' at the front. The openings are enclosed by a beaded circle. The reverse is flat except for the stubs of two spikes which are circular in cross-section. The four holes on this side are not 'countersunk'.

The mount is drab green with some bright green corrosion and there are traces of gilding at the front only.

Length: 29.2mm; width: 20.5mm; thickness: 3.5mm; thickness including spikes: 5.2mm. Weight: 3.36g.

Mount 2:

This mount is sub-circular in plan, moulded at the front and concave on the reverse. The front is in the form of a stylised flower head. It has a central roundel enclosed by six evenly spaced roundels. The reverse has two incomplete spikes which are circular in cross-section. The tips of the spikes are missing.

The mount is drab green with some bright green corrosion and there are traces of gilding at the front and also on the reverse.

Maximum diameter: 16.8mm; thickness: 3.5mm; thickness including spikes: 5.6mm. Weight: 2.36g.
