A Medieval to Post Medieval copper alloy double loop oval buckle dating to the period c AD1350 - 1700. The frame has a bevelled inside edge and three transverse engraved lines on each loop. The pin is missing. The central bar is narrowed and has a break towards one end. There is a small knop at either end of the bar. There are traces of black lacquer on both surfaces. The buckle measures 37.40mm in length, 33.17mm in width, 3.48mm in thickness and weighs 8.83g.
A similar example is illustrated in Margeson (1993:30, no.171) from a 17th century context , although with only one incised line rather than three, it is likely similar simple forms were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 22, 82-3, cf no.332).
