Unique ID: KENT-CEA5E8

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Prehistoric, knapped or flaked, medium size, flint, waste flake or debitage. Sub-rectangular/oval irregular oval shaped, slightly plano-concave mottled pale grey/brown flint with a few white patches on the ventral surface. Bulb of percussion with small bulbar scar, there is a medium sized striking platform with feint ripples. There is one flake bed and a section of cortex on the distal end and one side of the dorsal surface. The flint appears to show some wear or abrasion from being in the agricultural or plough top soil and has a patinated surface. This lithic is likely to date to the Late Neolithic or Early-Mid Bronze Age (4500-1500BC). Ref. Detector Finds 5, Gordon Bailey, Greenlight Publishing 2002, page 9-15 Fig. 2 and Prehistoric Flint Work, Chris Butler, History Press, reprinted 2011, page 32-35 Fig. 14 No. 3 & No. 4. The lithic is 37.59mm long, 28.53mm wide, 6.46mm thick and weighs 8.0g.
