A Post Medieval C16-18th, crudely cast, lead alloy, medium size, circular, slightly convex upper surface, relatively thick uniface token. The Powell 32 type classification system for lead tokens and tallies type 7 - hatching or Paul Baylis No. 20 - square chequered field (multi-lined) design. Obverse: Square chequered field (multi-lined or hatching design). Reverse: Off centre, rounded, sub-triangular probable casting fault. Mint by provenance. This grid design can be seen on the arms of the Waterman's Guild, alternatively these could be agricultural tallies given to farm labourers for ploughing and or harrow work? Worn with a matt grey surface with pale grey or white corrosion. Ref.
