An incomplete cast lead-alloy small steelyard weight dating probably to the Roman period (c. AD 43-410). The steelyard weight is biconical in shape. It consists of an upper and lower cone-shape and a central longitudinal perforation extending from one end to the other. The iron attachment loop is missing but the two iron ends of this survive, as does the iron point at the opposite end. The entire object is covered by a white/yellowish patina and shows traces of corrosion at both ends around the iron insert.
The steelyard weight measures 22.24mm in height, 20.89mm in diameter and weights 36.15 grams.
Similar steelyard weights are recorded on the Portable Antiquities scheme, for example NLM-B5AC04 and BH-B61A58.
