A Post Medieval, struck or hammered, silver Charles I (1625-1649) sixpence, Group A, first or second bust type 1. Obverse: Crowned bust left with VI behind the bust. Inscription: CAROLUS DG.MAG(B)R.ET.HIB (R)EX. Reverse: Square - topped shield over cross fourchee, date above. Inscription: CHRI(STO)[AUSP]IC(E) REGNO. Mint mark: Lis (105) Mint name: Tower London Die axis: 8 o'clock. Extremely worn or poor condition, heavily clipped with the outer half of the legend removed also a dark grey tarnish and the coin is a little distorted by agricultural equipment. This coin dates to 1625. Ref. Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2017, page 294 No. 2805 or 2806 and English Hammered Coinage Vol. 2, J.J. North, Spink 1991 reprint 2006, page 160 No. 2235. The coin is 22.24mm long, 21.33mm wide, 0.85mm thick, diameter 22.24mm and weighs 2.1g.
