BUTTON

Unique ID: WMID-64EAB6

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete silvered lead alloy, probable button, of uncertain dating but probably Post Medieval (AD 1600 to AD 1800).

Approximately 25-50% of the button survives. It is sub oval in shape. The front depicts a long cross with rouletted edges. Traces of silvering survive in the recess. The back bears no design or feature.

It measures 21.4 mm in length, 15.6 mm wide and 3.3 mm thick. It weighs 3.4 g.

No direct parallel to this fragment was found at the time of recording. The style of the cross is more suggestive that it could be a button but this identification is not definite.
