A spout/mouth sherd of a wheel thrown Roman ceramic flagon, probably Colchester colour coated ware dating to c. AD 120 - c. AD 300.

Description: The fabric of the fragment is a light orange with a lighter white-grey inner fabric with specks of evenly sorted mica throughout, some very sparse rounded medium quartz/flint is poorly sorted throughout. The remaining form shows a shaped cylindrical spout, with a slightly concave surface above a wide flat rim below which it has broken although a scare for a now missing handle is visible. The fragment is very worn and much of the colour coating has worn off.

Measurements: 48.31mm high, 34.72mm in diameter (at rim, 24.82mm in diameter along spout) 36.77g in weight.

Class: Colchester colour coated ware
Sub class: Flagon
