An incomplete cast and engraved 18th century seal matrix
Description: The matrix has a thin oval die face. The reverse of the die has small stepped back formed by two additional ovals overlain on the reverse. The handle is soldered to the reverse and is incomplete having been damaged in the recent past. The die face has a three masted ship in full sail right with high aft and fore pennants all set within a circle.
Measurements: 19.3mm long, 16.3mm wide, 8.33mm and (with remains of handle, 1.86mm without) and 4.41g in weight
Discussion: This seal fits a group of mostly 18th century silver seals produced using stock die and handle shapes paired variously, an example with a similar die is recorded at HAMP-D85578 which is solidly dated to the 18th century.
