An incomplete post medieval lead cloth seal with one stamped face, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1724. Disc 3 of a 4-part seal. The seal face is circular with two broken extensions opposite each other. It is finely stamped with a lion passant with a crown underneath, a figure 3 to the left, all within a roped border within a series of inward pointing wedges. The figure 3 represents the duty paid.
The seal measures 26.9mm in length, 16.8mm in diameter, 1.1mm in thickness and weighs 2.66 grams.
The Alnage taxation system ended in AD 1724 (Egan 1994), would the relatively fine stamping would suggest a later date in this range.
