This gold shilling belongs to a group of coins with a reverse inscription derived but blundered from an original reading WITMEN MONITA. A large group of 21 were present in the Crondall Hoard of the 640s (Naismith 2017: 57) with Crondall coin 80 (Metcalf 1993, no 12) of similar style to this coin. This coin fits into a die-linked group of four coins, three found in Kent, the other Oxfordshire, recorded over the last 20 years by the EMC. Of these, it share obverse and reverse dies with EMC2008.0308 and EMC2014.0033 and obverse dies with 2003.0051 and 2013.0062 (it is not clear whether there are reverse die links to the coins also).
