A late medieval to early post-medieval worn copper alloy lug or handle attachment for a chafing dish or similar vessel, c.AD 1400-1600.

Description: The object is ovoid in shape with a flattened face on the front and the reverse, with a central hole through the middle. The remains of a small collared integral rivet is present on the bottom of the object where it would have attached to the body of the vessel. The lug has a green uneven patina and several areas of significant abrasion suggest cycles of damage and exposure while deposited.

Measurements: 21.7mm long, 14.45mm wide, 8.38mm thick at thickest and 21.47g in weight.

Discussion:Similar examples are seem attached to chafing dish handles e.g. KENT-7B6924 and other probable vessel handles such as KENT-73C75C, as similar 15th to 16th century is suggested.

Class: Drop Handle lug
