Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast whorl with flat upper and lower faces, one larger than the other, facetted sides, and a central tapered moulded aperture of diameter 7.7-10.7mm; cf. Walton Rogers form A2. Patinated. The mass would permit this to have been used to spin a fine yarn. The spindle hole size might admit either a Middle Saxon or a Viking date. A comparable annular form is also known for medieval weights, but these are usually a little plainer. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-950.
