A complete copper alloy strap end dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1350-1450 AD.
The strap end is formed from two sheets of copper alloy which have been attached to create a shape that is sub-rectangular in plan, tapering towards the terminal end which finishes in a blunt point. It is hollow inside, although the opening is filled with later debris. There are two circular rivets, most clearly visible on the inner surface and placed towards the upper part of the object. The upper edge of the outer surface is fluted, and the outer side is decorated with incised decoration.
This consists of a rectangular shape following the outer lines of the object, within which is the letter B.
KENT-BBDDF5 is a similar example in terms of the incised decoration, construction and shape. There are numerous other examples of inscribed strap ends on the database (BERK-6E85B9, which seems to use initials, and DENO-0C86CA). Single letter inscriptions are a widespread phenomenon in this object type.
