A post-medieval copper cast-alloy mount (AD 1550-1700).
The mount is an open work quatrefoil with scallop shell shaped expansions between petals. In the centre is a cross, the ends of the arms of which are joined by projecting V-shaped points with rounded ends. Each scallop shell has raised lines radiating from the base to the outer edge. The mount's back is flat has two projecting attachment spikes placed behind the centre of two opposite clam shells. These spikes are rectangular in cross section and curled towards the centre of the mount.
The artefact is 36.6mm, 38.35mm wide, has a thickness of 2.45mm and weighs 8.51 grams.
Similar finds include SOM-D2CCB6 and SOM-9F27F2 although these have three attachment spikes and the latter is dated from circa AD 1600-1700. Near identical examples from East Lincolnshire and South Somerset have been illustrated by Read (2001, 27 and 34, fig 19 no 276-277) and dated to the 17th century (ibid).
