A complete copper alloy medieval buckle frame. The curved outer side is D-shaped in cross-section and its outer face is decorated with five engraved transverse grooves in the centre of the outer edge. The strap bar is straight, recessed and narrowed with a small knop at either end. There is an abrupt break across one end.
This is an example of a Meols Type 2 buckle, which are of late 13th to early 14th century date (Griffiths et al. 2007, fig.2.5.1).
