A worn copper alloy coin weight of the post medieval period which is sub-square in plan and has designs on both faces. Both faces show an arrangement of five annulets, positioned with one in each corner and one in the centre. At the top in the centre is a larger impression, which may possibly be a lis, although this is unclear. The obverse face also has the numbers "51" positioned on the left hand side, between the upper and lower annulets.
The weight of just under 7g is suggestive that it may have been used for the production of half (spur) ryals, which Withers and Withers (2011:79) describe as dating to 1604-1619. The lis is described (ibid: 78) as being associated with the coin weights of James I, which is consistent with this date. The 51 may be a form of maker's mark.
