A complete copper-alloy open thimble or sewing ring dating from the late Medieval to early Post Medieval period (AD 1450-1550). The thimble is cylindrical and hollow, and expands slightly in diameter towards the base where there is a slightly thickened raised band. The outside surface is decorated with five horizontal lines of triangular indentations, while the interior surface is undecorated. The object has a mid-brown patina on all surfaces, and patches of green-corrosion inside. The thimble is 21mm in external diameter and a maximum of 2mm thick. It weighs 8.83 grams.
