BACKED BLADE

Unique ID: NLM-6C0666

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Grey-brown translucent flint of high quality with cortex spot, possible backed blade. A long flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck longitudinally from its dorsal side, and with a bulb at the narrower end of a rippled ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect, perhaps combined with the results of edge-on impacts, follow one long straight edge; cortex remains along the opposite edge, where an edge may also have been trimmed. The object may have been incorporated into a sealed context until recently. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC

Length: 46.0mm, Width: 23.7mm, Thickness: 4.8mm, Weight: 6.89gms
