A copper alloy enamelled Roman plate brooch dating to the second century AD. The plate is rectangular, with an undecorated border surrounding a recessed field containing a raised metal reserve design in the shape of a hare or hound running to the right. The animal has long, slender ears which are angled to the rear and a long muzzle, with a mouth indicated by a horizontal incision. The front leg curls around into a downwards facing foot, the rear leg is S-shaped and terminates in a rounded foot. The body is sinuous with a centrally placed incised annulet and ends in an upward-curling tail. The upper field contains the remnants of red enamel, the lower portion has traces of blue enamel. The reverse is undecorated with an in-line hinge and catchplate. The pin is missing.
