COIN

Unique ID: GAT-8933B6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper-alloy Roman coin, possibly of Antonius Pius (138 AD-161 AD).

Observe: The bust on the obverse is very worn, with only the outline remaining. A partial inscription can be seen on the lower left-hand side of the obverse but does not help in identifying the coin.

Reverse: The reverse is also badly worn. A partially seated figure facing left is visible, possibly Indulgentia who was depicted on the reverse of Antonius Pius coinage (Sear 2005, 39). Indulgentia represented indulgence and mercy and would have held a patera and sceptre (Sear 2005, 39). The reverse has no inscription.
