An incomplete copper alloy Swivel Fitting, possibly from a Purse Bar, of probable Medieval date (AD 1200-1550). The object is composed of two arms with an integral central sub-rectangular boss. The arms are sub-circular in section and terminate in integrally cast, terminals, the right arm is longer than the left and the right terminal is more heavily abraded and is sub-ovate in shape. The left arms terminal is square. The central boss is D shaped in section extends upwards into a hollow cylindrical spur. The front of the central boss and left terminal has some incised decorative pattern. The boss has two pairs of three ovate incisions one group in the upper portion, the other along the lower edge. The left terminal retains a slightly raised saltire extending across the front of the terminal. This appears to be relief work.
