Lead steelyard weight of uncertain date, possibly Roman (c. AD 43 - 1750). The weight is cylindrical in form with a slightly bulging oval base and the remains of a red-brown iron loop at the top. The object is dark grey in colour with a white patina. There is a patch of red-brown iron encrustation around the loop. The object is 28.73mm in length, 26.93mm in width and 22.74mm in thickness. It weighs 87.43g.

Lead weights can be difficult to date without archaeological context. A number of similar examples have been recorded on the database with a Roman date, but similar examples are also noted from the medieval period. See: SWYOR-EEA934 and SUR-658C0A.
