A complete cast Post-Medieval copper-alloy mount with a 'flower' design c. 1500 - 1700 AD. The object is circular in plan with a convex upper surface and a slightly dished rear, with a central attachment spike. The pattern, from a central moulded circle has 16 radiate arms of moulded lobes as if a chrysanthemum flower head, has a slight 'swirl' to the termination of the lobes. . The surface has a green/brown patina with ferrous staining surrounding the central fixing spike. The mount is 29.82mm in diameter, 1.82mm thick, and weigh 9.5g.
A similar type of mount can be found on the PAS database: ESS-944B3E discovered in Cambridgeshire,dating the 17th century. There is also an alternate description of use as a casket latch mount on record WAW-B944B4.
