An incomplete copper alloy enamelled disc brooch dating to the Roman period (c.AD 80 - AD 250). The brooch is circular in plan. It has a central, concave cell surrounded by a silvered border. The thinner, exterior, circumferential border is also silvered. The area between the borders is decorated with six evenly spaced silvered pellets set in a field of green enamel. The central cell would have contained enamel. The reverse is flat and undecorated, with the pin mounting block and catchplate evident. The pin and part of the edge of the annular plate are missing.
The metal is worn and has a mid green patina. The brooch is 22.2 mm in diameter, the plate alone is 2.0 mm thick or 7.3mm thick with the mounting block included. It weighs 4.2g.
Similar examples can be found in Hattatt (1982, p. 137ff, fig. 58), and on the PAS database such as YORYM-0D2B15 and HAMP-74A674.
