An incomplete gilded copper alloy medieval buckle plate. The original shape of the plate is uncertain as there is damage around all edges. There is a rectangular slot in the centre of the inner side where the pin would have sat originally and to either side of this damaged strips decorated with parallel transverse grooves. There are three small circular attachment holes through the plate, one through the outer end and two through the inner end. Traces of gilding can be seen on the outer surface.
Plates of this form are found on several types of medieval buckle and without the rest of the frame they are difficult to date more closely.
