A Post Medieval copper alloy ring type seamless thimble dating to c AD1520-1600. There are circumferential upper and basal plain bands with with one groove, and a right-hand spiral of reversed-D indentations. At the start of the spiral is a maker's mark showing a V shape connected to an oval. The thimble measures 21.97mm in diameter at the top, 23.49mm at the base, is 1.71mm thick and weighs 4.34g.

Similar examples can be found in Read (2018), e.g. nos 26 and 42. He states that these type of thimbles were possibly from Nuremberg and probably cast. They have punched indentations and can have circumferential ridges or grooves. He suggests a date of c.1520-1600 for this type (2018, 14-15). A reference is also made to this type of thimble by Holmes (1988, 3). The maker's mark could not be identified.
