Incomplete cast copper alloy double looped (spectacle) buckle of post-medieval date (1550-1650). The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan with a central bar to which the pin (not present) would have fitted. Centrally positioned at either end of the frame are cast lozenge shaped decorations. In the centre of the buckle frame, either side of the axis bar, are two semi-circular undecorated cast knops. The frame is broken into two parts. The buckle measures 45.5mm long, 28.1mm wide and is 3.4mm thick. It weighs 7.24 grams.

The buckle is mid-dark green colour with a broken and uneven patina that covers all surfaces. The majority of this patina has been chipped away probably by movement in the soil, this movement has resulted in the buckle being asymmetrical. There are several areas of light green powdery corrosion present. The breaks on the buckle are relatively recent as a patina has not developed. Similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', pages 60-72 specifically example 401 and 405 (page 65). Whitehead suggests that these buckles date from the post medieval period (1550 - 1650).
