An Iron Age uninscribed base silver or billon stater of South-Western type, attributed to the Durotriges. Rudd's 'Cranborne Chase' type (ABC 2157), dating to c.58 BC - AD43. The coin is thicker to one side than the other.
Cf. ABC no. 2175; BMC nos. 2790-2859, although cf. ABC 2169; BMC nos. 2555-2636 for the Cranborne Chase billon type.


The silver content of these staters can vary over a quite wide range perhaps from 70% to 30%, those with a higher silver content likely to be earlier in the series.
