A copper alloy Colchester derivative bow brooch. A Polden Hill variant with a chord hook at the head. The brooch is incomplete with the spring and pin missing. The semi-cylindrical wings are open at the rear and decorated with three vertical lines. At each end is an integrally cast cap with an off-centre drilled hole to house the missing axis bar. Attached to the axis bar would have been the missing spring for the pin mechanism. At the centre on the upper edge of the wings is a broken pierced lug where the the chord of the pin would have attached. The bow projects downwards from the wings and is oval in cross section. It is decorated with a central longitudinal rib flanked by triangular recesses which retain traces of red enamel. Along either side of the bow is an incised groove and the outer edges incised with a series of short grooves creating a toothed appearance. The bow tapers to a double knopped foot. At the rear of the lower part of the bow ia a hooked catchplate.
