Roman copper alloy figurine fragment, 32mm long, 21mm wide and 18mm thick with a weight of 36.44g.

The fragment consists of a male bust with curled hair wearing a phrygian cap. The cap is sub conical and is heavily gilded in patches. There is a slight depression in its upper surface which may suggest an iron loop and its use as a suspended weight? or it may be evidence for its casting? The face is quite worn but is rounded with a flattish nose and almond eyes. The object is broken across the upper neck with an uneven underside.

The bust is a depiction of Mars. The gilding around the cap is very rare.
