A copy of a silver hammered small flan penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) dating to 1048-1050. Obverse: right facing bust with crude retrograde legend which may read EDDEW[...]EDEX. Reverse: voided short cross with indecipherable retrograde legend. Moneyer reads something like Elfrif / Ælfrif. Unclear mint. The flan is bent into an S shape.

Notes:

The coin appears to be reverse struck, with a right facing bust of crude style and retrograde lettering as if the die was copied directly and incompetently from a genuine coin. No contemporary parallels are known for a forgery of this type, so this may be a more recent (possibly modern) copy.
