Vessel fragment, as kindly suggested by the finder. A rectangular plate of thick [0.7mm] sheet metal, folded with a pair of juxtaposed rivets with flat round bevelled heads [of head diameter 10.4mm, shank diameter 4.5mm and length 7.7mm] passing through it, and through an intervening scrap of thinner sheet, and with burred ends on the other side, where they lie in a groove. The object was presumably attached to the rim of an object, the finder suggests it may have anchored one end of a bucket handle; the bucket might have been of wood or leather. The form of the rivets tends to suggest a relatively recent date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800
