A post-medieval mount with integral, pointed lugs, probably from 17th century according to similar examples in Read's Metal Artefacts of Antiquity, Vol. 1 (2001, pg 28, illustration 308 particularly).
The object is cast, with a concave back from which extrude the two lugs, and convex front. The central part is ovoid with terminals at both ends, cut with crudely symmetrical arrangements of oblique grooves.
