Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman hinged knee brooch variant. Both of the wings are incomplete but still retain the copper alloy spindle within the tubes and the hinge at the back of the head, but the pin is missing. The wings are separated from the flat head of the brooch by a curved transverse groove and the triangular head tapers to a point as it extends outwards, defined by pinched recessed sides. The bow then expands into another triangle, with pinched mouldings below, which is at a right angle to the head, so that the bow curves back on itself and is flush with the back of the wings at the point where it is broken. The back of the bow already has the beginnings of the catch-plate but the rest and the foot of the brooch are missing. So the brooch appears to be quite short and has the profile of a small knee brooch but the wings and head are more like a T-shaped brooch.

Hattat (2000) illustrates a knee brooch with a similar profile but different head on p.334, fig.193, no.482, and a knee brooch variant with more of a triangulated head and bow on p.336, fig.195, no.1234, which are dated from the 2nd century AD.
