BROOCH

Unique ID: DOR-5604D3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester derivative bow brooch. The pin and spring are missing as is one the end-caps for the wings. A single integral pierced end cap remains on one of the wings. This would have housed the missing axis bar for the spring pin mechanism. The wings are semi-cylindrical to house the missing spring. The bow projects downwards from the centre of the wings and tapers to a bent, pointed foot and is oval in cross section. The bow is decorated with a central longitudinal ridge with a projecting circular sectioned pin part way down. This was possibly to attache a decorative element.
The brooch is damaged and heavily corroded.
