A corroded copper-alloy Roman radiate, probably a contemporary copy of Caracalla (AD 198-217), dating to the period c.AD 215-218 (Reece period 10) or later. IOVI CONSERVATORI reverse type depicting Jupiter standing left holding thunderbolt and vertical sceptre, small figure standing to left. Unclear mint, probably from a prototype of the mint of Rome.
This type is unlisted for Caracalla but is known for Macrinus (AD 217-218) and later Emperors. It is likely that this coin is either a hybrid or more likely given its base appearance a contemporary copy combining an obverse of Caracalla with a reverse of Macrinus, although the reverse type does continue with later rulers.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
