The hoop of the finger ring is oval in shape, and expands slightly at the bezel. The bezel has two sunken fittings, one containing a blue stone or glass, this is sub oval in shape. The gold overlaps the stone to hold it in place. The second fitting is missing the setting, and has a circular indentation where the fitting would have been. Running around the fittings and the hoop is moulded decoration. The hoop is decorated with a repeated scale pattern, which overlaps the previous line. At the centre of the back of the hoop, on the opposite side to the bezel, is a rectangular strip running down the hoop on the outside and breaking the scale pattern. This seems to be decorated with incised diagonal lines. The inside of the hoop is undecorated, and has irregular scratches, possibly from manufacturing.
The finger ring is a bright orange gold colour, and measures 20.9mm in diameter, 5.3mm in width, 2.1mm in thickness and weighs 8.09g.The finger-ring is over 300 years in date and has a precious metal content of over 10%. Consequently, in terms of age and precious metal content, the object qualifies as potential Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.2019-02-22 11:04:522021-12-14 08:00:12412019-02-1026Certain112936PAS5C6FD7540017EA23141BUCGold10892CastCompleteMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxMetal detectorCircaCirca93912011901119731190341421SP8033SP8033SP83SW51.9897011-0.8363703261001046894BUCFD7547.jpg3133477Post medieval gold finger ringThe Portable Antiquities Scheme4images/ajames/South EastCultivated landEuropean RegionCountyBuckinghamshireDistrictAylesbury ValeCivil Parish51.9978-0.826355WhaddonDeclared Treasure but returned to Finder as Museum unable to acquire96691
