A fragment of a copper alloy Medieval buckle plate, 35.4mm in length with traces of a gilded surface. One end has a rivet hole retaining a copper alloy rivet and a broken portion of a second hole. There is a portion of a lug with a gap for the pin. The other end is broken away. The front of the plate is stamped with a rectangular escutcheon within which is a lion facing left with tail raised over its body, possibly passant gardant in form in the manner of the Royal Arms of England. Circa 13th-14th century.
