An incomplete Roman copper-alloy hinged Colchester derivative T-shaped brooch (AD 50-150).
The pin is largely missing and the lower part of the bow, including the catch-plate, is also missing.
The front of the wings close to the bow are flat are semi-circular at their ends. The rear of the wings is flat and has a lateral seam. It is possible that the wings were made open at the rear and then closed to secure the axis bar. The axis bar is made of copper-alloy. The rear of the wings has a central rectangular slot, 2.2mm in width, to accommodate the copper-alloy pin. However, only the pin loop survives. The bow has a bulbous head and is generally 'D'-shaped in cross-section with near parallel sides. Adjacent to the wings the bow has a width of 8.1mm and the width at the break is 7.3mm. At the break, the thickness is 5.3mm. The bow is flat and plain at the rear. The transverse break on the bow is old.
This brooch is green with patches of a green patina.
Length: 23.3mm; width of wings: 27.4mm; thickness of bow below wings: 8.7mm. Weight: 11.35g.
