Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Medieval copper alloy gilded mount or fragment, 24mm in length, 23mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 3.52grams.

The object is sub rectangular in form and rectangular cross section. It has an irregular 'scalloped' edge which echoes the form of its foliate decoration. This includes what appears to be a central ridge with a branches emerging out to each side, which then split into more smaller ones. It has an oval hole at each side of the main 'branch' in its upper half and when viewed from the reverse there are two now filled, similar smaller holes below. The object is very worn and has patches of gilding. It has has no obvious fixings, suggesting it is part of a larger mount. The decoration suggests Winchester style.
