Late Medieval copper alloy purse bar fragment, 67mm in length, 9mm wide and 5mm thick with a weight of 16.83g.

The object is rectangular in form and sub rectangular in cross section and represents about one half of a complete bar. Its complete end has a stepped rounded terminal 7mm in diameter and 7-8mm wide. From here the bar is flatter and bows slightly outwards in the centre. It has two semi-circular flat projections on its underside, 5mm wide, which have circular holes for sewing on the purse body. The object has broken at the opposite end.

The bar is inscribed on both faces and inlaid with niello. The inscription on one side reads CORAM TEF and the other side is difficult to read due to wear. Coram means 'Before' in Latin.

The bar fits Class A2. Similar examples include LANCUM-996F8D, KENT-1DF1BA, and BERK-C3DBF9.
