MOUNT

Unique ID: LEIC-BCC434

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon copper alloy mount. 7mm thick and 28mm in diameter with a weight of 8.09grams. The object is circular in form and rectangular in cross section with a flat plain outer border and inner recessed area. This area is formed of three concentric ridges, the outer two are beaded, the inner is plain. These are dissected by four sets of three short transverse lines (with the same decoration) at cardinal points. The centre has a final beaded circle surrounding a flat raised circular platform. The inner circle and outer border have slight traces of tinning/silvering and the beaded area is gilded. The reverse has four circular cross sectioned attachment prongs. The object is almost identical to one found nearby LEIC-729A02 and is the third of this type now found in the county.

The form of mount has many parallels but not the decoration.
