Copper alloy farthing trade token issued by Philip Lanyon of Penzance, Cornwall. The obverse has the inscription P.L. IN PENZANCE surrounding the figure of John the Baptist on a charger which Williamson (1967) describes as the Arms of Penzance on page 105, no.66. The reverse has no inscription, in base a castle, chief a falcon and crescent which is a simplified version of the family arms of the Lanyons of Madron dating to c.1650 (Williamson Vol I, 1967, p.105, no.66).
