CLOTH SEAL

Unique ID: GLO-560186

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Part of a lead cloth seal of post-Medieval date. The main plate is formed from an eight pointed star that would have had a rectangular tab on one side to affix a second corresponding plate. The face of the remaining plate is decorated with a rectangular shield surrounded by a crown and displaying the French modern coat of arms, to the left of the shield is a C and to the right is an R.

Two similar seals recorded on this database at BH-B85EC3Z and BH-25B823 both display the French modern coat of arms with the coat of arms of Lyon on the reverse. These examples are thought to be associated with the import of silk from Lyon see BH-25B823 for further discussion.
