An incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date, c. AD 75 - 175. The head is ovate with concave reverse displaying the remains of a single centrally positioned integral lug. The pin and pin mechanism no longer remain. The front of the head bears traces of moulded decoration though its design cannot be determined due to wear and corrosion.
A D-sectioned bow extends from the front of the head widening to a worn circular acanthus moulding. The lower bow is lost to a worn break.
The metal has a dark black/green patina and is worn. The brooch is 33.3mm long, 13.9mm wide, 9.7mm thick and weighs 9.2g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.326, fig.185 and are dated to circa AD 75 - 175.
