An incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date, c. AD 75 - 175. The head is ovate with a single centrally positioned integral lug to the reverse. An axis bar remains fitted through the lug, both end of which are broken and worn. Five turns of the spring remain around the axis bar, one extending to form the circular sectioned pin. The pin is broken just after the final turn and is worn.
A narrow circular sectioned bow extends from the front of the head widening slightly to a semi-circular acanthus moulding. A single semi-circular collar is present above the moulding. The lower bow is lost to a worn break.
The metal has a dark brown patina and is worn. The brooch is 24.2mm long, 12.6mm wide, 4.3mm thick and weighs 3.9g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.326, fig.185 and are dated to circa AD 75 - 175.
