A Medieval Silver penny of Edward III (1327-1377), third (florin) coinage of type 4 minted at Reading and dating to 1344-1351. Obverse: bust of king facing with the legend +EDWAR[DVS R]EX AnG, with Lombardic n. Reverse: long cross with 3 pellets in each quarter, escallop in the upper right quarter, legend [VIL]/LAR/ADI/NGY.
Notes:
As North (1991), p48, number 1129, but with the obverse legend for the Fourth Pre-Treaty Coinage (1351-1361). This variant is referred to in Wren (1995), p88 as a late type.
