STRAP END

Medieval (c. 1350 to 1400) strap end: The strap end is an elongated rectangular sheet which has been folded in half across the narrow edge and forms a slender V-shape in profile. Both plates have a rivet hole in the centre of the narrow edge opposite the folded edge with a copper alloy rivet within. The outer face is decorated with transverse linear grooves as decoration.

The surface of the plate has a patches of a shiny mid green patina.

The strap end measures 23.07mm long, 9.16mm wide, 3.46mm thick at the flared terminal, and weighs 1.95g.

The plate is probably a strap end rather than a buckle plate as there is not a slot for the pin. In Egan and Pritchard (2002) there are similar clasp plate, particularly Nos.755 and 749 and probably dates to between c. 1350 to 1400.
