A circular lead alloy lid for a Post Medieval storage jar or vessel, 66.2mm in diameter. The lid has a pronounced rim with a finely delimited inner edge. This frames a dished inner area which runs around a conical central boss and which carries traces of red pigment or paint. From the top of this boss projects a terminal, which is clearly damaged and may once have been either globular or pointed. Within the centre of this projection is an iron rod which runs through the lid, presumably to strengthen it. The underside has concentric frames around the central axis. which may have helped seat the lid on the aperture of the jar or vessel it was used to cover. Circa 18th-19th century.
